"BeiJing Huan Ying Ni"

The summer Olympics in Beijing are almost here! ... I'm excited :) for all the sports, but mainly for the Track & Volleyball.

The Track & Field stadium is amazing. I can't even imagine how they built it! ... Here are some photos of Herzog & de Meuron’s National Stadium. (I got the photos from Dezeen ... but they were taken by architectural photographer, Iwan Baan)

I also really like the design for this Olympics Games ... the Fuwa in particular. They look so happy and friendly ... I probably would like a hug from all of them at once!

Like the Five Olympic Rings from which they draw their color and inspiration, Fuwa will serve as the Official Mascots of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, carrying a message of friendship and peace -- and good wishes from China.

Each of Fuwa has a rhyming two-syllable name -- a traditional way of expressing affection for children in China. Beibei is the Fish, Jingjing is the Panda, Huanhuan is the Olympic Flame, Yingying is the Tibetan Antelope and Nini is the Swallow.

When you put their names together -- Bei Jing Huan Ying Ni -- they say "Welcome to Beijing," offering a warm invitation that reflects the mission of Fuwa as young ambassadors for the Olympic Games.

I went a lil link-crazy today ... forgive me, I told you I'm excited! haha

only good potatoes.

I Believe in Advertising. creative ideas sell products ... this is absolutely true in my opinion. I often find myself buying things b/c the packaging is prettier ... and when the commercials made me laugh or make me think, I remember the product.

this site is dedicated to fabulous advertising! it posts some of the best creative advertising each day. the agencies that come up with this stuff are definitely raising the bar on creativity ... daaang I think I need to step my game up! haha

here are some of my favorite print ads posted on here:

puppy sighs

I got a new puppy on Friday ... kinda by accident! I'm really just supposed to take care of him until he gets healthier ... but I think I'll end up keeping him! He is the runt of a litter of 16 puppies, and just hasn't been able to get the food/attention he needs.

I named him Wallace :) ... he's a Great Dane and is only 8lbs at 8 weeks old!

she was more like a beaty queen ...

Michael Jackson came up today at work, so of course I was excited! This is how the conversation went:

Fred: "Oh yeah I was there when he did the moonwalk for the first time."
Me: "Whaaaaaat? You were at Motown 25?"
Fred: "Well by 'there' I mean I saw it on TV. It was at the Grammy's or something."
Me: "If it was the first time [MJ] did the moonwalk in front of an audience, it was his Motown 25 performance."
Fred: "Why do you know that?"
Me: "Yeah, that's what I meant when I said I LOVE Michael Jackson." hahaha

(OK, that's not exactly how the conversation went; but it was something like that.)

So, here it is - Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever

"You're my boy, BLU!"

So, my topic of the day is stolen from someone else's blog, see. (Thanks Ben) But, it's definitely worth biting so that anyone that reads my blog and not his can see this! hahaha

The artists that does these "painted wall animations" goes by the name BLU. He's extremely talented and creative. I've never seen anything like it before.

This piece was painted on public walls in Buenos Aires and Baden.

HERE is the artist's website ... def worth checking out!

come day, go day

It's Monday at lunch time and I'm ready for a nap already! haha that's what I get for staying up until 5am twice this weekend (Friday and Sunday) and til 3 am (Saturday).

But it was allll worth it ... birthdays, jams, dancing, dinner, movies ... hung out with good friends and new friends, met new people. Great weekend overall :)

So what do we do on Mondays when we are tired after weekends like that? Well, I turn to my good friend VitaminWater: Energy! (I'm not sure it's as healthy as they claim b/c of all the sugar in it - check HowStuffWorks for the technical explanation) ... anyways I still love it hahaha

But, besides loving to drink this stuff ... we all know I like simple design so that makes me want to buy it and the little stories on each one are fantastic! (My favorite story is the on the XXX flavor) I would love to meet the people that get to write this stuff! Bunch-a-geniuses ... or maybe inspired alcoholics like the rest of us in the advertising world hahaha :P j/k (but really)

Here's the story on the Energy flavor:

in soccer (excuse us mexico, spain, and italy, we mean "futbol"), there's isn't a more exciting moment than when the announcer screams "gooooooooal" (yelling "oooffffsiddde" never quite caught on).

with that said, we added b vitamins and guarana to give you an extra kick (pun intended). so now when you're watching soccer, playing soccer, or doing anything that starts with "socc" and ends with "er," you too can have the energy of a raving lunatic to yell "gooooooooal."

**VitaminWater - if your sales go up after today, it's probably b/c of my blog ... and I want a cut (not joking) holla!**

I just want to shout out RockStar energy drinks also ... today is a serious case and I may have to turn to you in a lil bit

more ... more ... more

Adidas Centennial Lo: End2End - Atom/Can2

Puma Flipper: Maui

Nike Cortez: Leather Black/Black

new shoes today (adidas) and last weekend (puma & nike) :) ok that's all

that's more like it!

wheeew ... ok so I already had enough of the "light red". It only lasted one day but I determined that calling PINK by a different name doesn't make me like the color anymore ... even though it's my birthday color. Oh well!

So, the other day I was looking up shoes (surprise, surprise) and I came across some graffiti artists. If you are wondering how I came across some graf heads while looking for sneakers ... this is how:

Last year, Adidas and Foot Locker teamed up with some of the best graffiti artists in the world. They gave these artists a change to take their black book sketches into the sneaker/fashion world.

The 7 chosen graf artists worked in a custom-built studio for 3 days to create their artwork for the End 2 End Project. The pieces (shoes, apparel, etc.) in the End 2 End Project combines these artists' creativity, innovation and style without compromising their credibility.

The artists involved were :: ATOM & CAN2*, SKORE, SILOETTE, RIME, SCIEN & SMART

OK blah blah blah ... anyways. Siloette is a female graf head out of the US & her work is AMAZING! I love her style, her sense of color, the simplicity AND the detail in her work. She does beautiful portraits of women. Basically, if I knew how to paint w a spray can, this is what I would want it to look like! Check out her portfolio HERE.

This is one of my favorite pieces ... it says it's available, so I might try to buy it!
Or you can buy if for me if you want :P (my birthday's in a few months!)

* I bought the sneaks these guys did! wooooooo

2 in 1 day ... I'm excited

I LOVE SHOES ... all of em, but sneakers in particular. I just got a new pair in the mail! yaaaaaaaaay

Limited Edition: Nike Air Max 1 BT - Olympic Pack - High Jump: Zhu JianHua

But, here's the story behind them from Kix-Files.com:

This is a pair of Air Max 1 inspired by the first Chinese High Jump Winner Zhu Jianhua. He dominated Asian high jump in the early 1980s, he won the Asian Championships in 1981, crushing the championship record (CR) by 15 centimetres. He repeated this at the 1982 Asian Games with a jump of 2.33m, beating the previous CR by 12 cm. He retained his title in the 1986 Asian Games. His 1982 jump is an Asian Games record as of 2007, and no other athlete has jumped over 2.27 in the Games.

At the inaugural World Championships in 1983 and the 1984 Summer Olympics he competed against the world elite, finishing third on both occasions.

Zhu jumped 2.37 metres in 1983, setting a new world record. He would go on to reach 2.38 and even 2.39 metres, the latter in 1984.

((sneakers w a high jumper on them ... I think I'm in love hahaha))

it's what you've all been waiting for ...

Ok, so. I've tried this before, and I'm going to warn you, I'm not very good at blogging. But, here it goes. Hmmmmmmm what should my first entry be about?

Maybe (if you know me, which you might not) you are wondering why I made my blog pink! hahaha because I don't really like the color pink (or "light red" as some of my clients like to call it ... i.e. "Can you make that 'light red'? It's too bright right now." ... "Well, sir, I think you should know that 'light red' is AKA 'pink' and that will look stupid." ... I didn't actually say "stupid", but I think he got it ... we made it "light brown" instead!)

Anyways, back to why is my blog pink right now. Well, I came across a site yesterday (www.colorstrology.com) talking about colors and birthdays. Being a designer, I love color ... and everyone knows I love birthdays :) so it caught my attention. But, tell me why my birthday colors are all variations of PINK ... actually I think I'll call it LIGHT RED b/c I like red better.

Here is what it told me about my birthday:

NOVEMBER :: INTENSE, PASSIONATE, TRANSFORMING :: CLARET RED* (Pantone 17-1740)

The color for the month of November is Claret Red. Intense and passionate, this color inspires depth, strength and love. People born during this month can see beyond the mundane and into the hearts of others. This is a great month to integrate your qualities of perception with a more light-hearted detachment. Claret Red helps you stay inspired as you build your dreams and ambitions. You can wear, meditate or surround yourself with Claret Red when you want to increase your perception, persistence, and drive.

*Claret Red :: Pantone 17-1740 (being a designer, it made me happy that there are Pantone equivalents of all the colors on this site!)

NOVEMBER 10 :: LEADER, COMMUNICATOR, APPEALING :: AURORA RED (Pantone 18-1550)

Inspired communication is one of the many talents that you have. Writing, speaking, and teaching are just some of the ways you can help illuminate others. You can be very determined, so it is best that you have somewhere to channel your desires. A stubborn streak needs to be guarded against. Wearing, meditating or surrounding yourself with Aurora Red reminds you to stay flexible and grounded as you build your dreams into a manifested reality.

So, that is why my blog page is "light red" right now ... I was inspired by my birthday "colorstrology".
